--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: Final drive oil temperatures may be decreased by removing the screen assembly and/or increasing retainer hole diameters on certain Off-Highway Trucks. This modification will allow for an increased oil flow from final drive to differential housing. Refer to the following modification procedures and Illustrations for specific information.
Modification Procedure For 784B Tractors; 785 And 785B Off-Highway Trucks
1. Remove the 106-6540 Retainer from 6G-9345, 8X-9489, 140-7626 Wheel Groups (not serviced) or 0R-8401 Wheel Arrangement.
2. If applicable, remove the 116-1992 Screen Assembly from 142-5135, 6G-9345, 8X-9489, 140-7626 Wheel Groups (not serviced) or 0R-9034 Wheel Arrangement.
3. Increase the sixteen holes in 106-6540 Retainer from Ø13 mm (.511 in) to Ø16 mm (.629 in). Refer to Illustration.
4. Measure and record 116-1992 Screen Assembly thickness (approximately .762 mm or .03 in).
5. Replace the former 116-1992 Screen Assembly thickness (as recorded in Step 4) with an equal thickness from 6G-9079 Shim Pack.
6. Reassemble modified or new 106-6540 Retainer to wheel group.
7. Reassemble wheel group.
NOTE: It is NOT recommended to rework 8W-5919 Retainer. Replace 8W-5919 Retainer with a new or modified 106-6540 Retainer (Refer to Step 3).
View of 106-6540 Retainer. If applicable, (A) increase diameter of 16 holes from Ø13 mm (.511 in) to Ø16 mm (.629 in).
Modification Procedure For 789 And 789B Off-Highway Trucks
1. If applicable, remove the 115-2443 Screen Assembly from 5T-4476, 143-2173 Wheel Groups (not serviced) or 0R-9040 Wheel Arrangement.
2. Measure and record 115-2443 Screen Assembly thickness (approximately .762 mm or .03 in).
3. Replace the former 115-2443 Screen Assembly thickness (as recorded in Step 2) with an equal thickness from 8X-8439 Shim Pack.
4. Reassemble the wheel group.
Modification Procedure For 793, 793B And 789C Off-Highway Trucks
1. If applicable, remove the 116-1303 Screen Assembly from 113-4328, 125-6508, 135-7121, 141-0208 Wheel Groups (not serviced), 0R-9046 or 0R-9049 Wheel Arrangement.
2. Measure and record 116-1303 Screen Assembly thickness (approximately .762 mm or .03 in).
3. Replace the former 116-1303 Screen Assembly thickness (as recorded in Step 2) with an equal thickness from 8X-1477 Shim Pack.
4. Reassemble the wheel group.
Adaptable To: Screen assembly removal is effective with 784B (5RK26) Tractors; 785B (6HK880), 789B (7EK665), 793C (4AR299) Off-Highway Trucks; 0R-9034 (14947), 0R-9040 (14954), 0R-9049 (15057) and 0R-9046 (15057) Wheel Arrangements. 106-6540 Retainer with larger diameter holes is effective with 784B (5RK26) Tractors; 785B (6HK888) Off-Highway Trucks and 0R-9034 (15355) Wheel Arrangements. Adaptable to earlier models.
