Description of Change: Two new solenoid valve groups with improved coil assemblies are available for the listed machines. One new valve group is for various machines equipped with individual clutch modulation (ICM) transmissions, the other is for E-Series Articulated Trucks with planetary transmissions. The new coil assemblies use an improved encapsulant material that provides increased resistance to cracking and moisture entry. This results in an extended service life and improved reliability.
Adaptable To: The new 144-6292 Solenoid Valve Group directly replaces the former 7X-1120 Solenoid Valve Group or the 107-8238 Solenoid Valve Group. Any Off-Highway Truck, Quarry Truck, Off-Highway Tractor, or Wheel Tractor-Scraper with an ICM transmission that uses the former valve group can be retrofitted with the new valve group. Also, on E-Series Articulated Trucks with planetary transmissions, the new 144-6293 Solenoid Valve Group replaces the 115-7881 Solenoid Valve Group.
The solenoid valve group improvements have been incorporated into Caterpillar remanufactured transmissions. A chart listing new transmission arrangement part numbers, remanufactured transmission arrangement part numbers, and effective remanufactured serial numbers appears at the end of the article.
During installation, torque the valve assembly to 80 ± 5 N·m (60 ± 4 lb ft) and torque the coil retaining nut to 9 ± .5 N·m (7 ± .4 lb ft). Note that the coil retaining nut is shipped only finger tight on a new valve group since the coil is removed while the cartridge assembly is being installed on the transmission. Charts containing the parts breakdown of the new and former valve groups follow. The first row of the chart contains the valve group part numbers. Subsequent rows contain part numbers of the components that make up the valve group listed in the first row.
NOTE: The former 107-8238 Solenoid Valve Group can be upgraded by replacing the former 107-8612 Coil Assembly with the new 142-7324 Coil Assembly. No other component parts are interchangeable between the other valve groups except for the 100-4083 Seal Kit which is common to all. Effectivity of the two new valve groups is listed in the following charts.
