New torque converters use a new three piece output shaft bearing. The new bearing is a straight roller bearing which replaces the ball bearing used in former torque converters. The new bearing provides better reliability and longer service life.
Adaptable To: The new torque converters are a direct replacement of the former torque converters. The new three piece bearings are a direct replacement for the former ball bearings.
The new Torque Converters are effective with 814F (9DM0135-Up) Wheel Tractors; 815F (1GN0375-Up, 2BS0037-Up) Soil Compactors; 816F (5FN0332-Up) Landfill Compactors; 966F Series II (1SL2525, 1SL2527-2532, 1SL2534-2538, 1SL2540, 1SL2543, 1SL2545-2567, 1SL2619-2634, 1SL2636-2648, 1SL2650-2661, 1SL2663-Up, 9YJ3959, 9YJ3967, 9YJ3969, 9YJ3978, 9YJ3980-3996, 9YJ3998-Up) Wheel Loaders; and 970F (9JK0794-Up, 7SK0865, 7SK0867-882, 7SK0885-Up) Wheel Loaders. The new Torque Converters and Three Piece Output Shaft Bearings are adaptable to first production for the machines listed.
NOTE: The former torque converters can be upgraded by replacing the ball bearings with the new three piece bearings. However, the assembly procedure for the new torque converter is slightly different and is listed below:
Procedure For Installing the New Torque Converters
1. Use the Reference as a guide. Starting from Step 15 of the assembly procedure, the inner race of the bearing is installed on the output shaft.
NOTE: Step 16 does not apply to the new torque converters.
2. The shaft with the inner race is next installed into the carrier. The shaft and carrier are placed in a vertical position with the bearing side up. The two components should be supported by the carrier.
3. The shaft may either protrude through a hole in the workbench, or some blocking materials may be used to support the carrier with the end of the shaft suspended above the table. There is a press fit between the outer race and roller assembly. Select a driver which matches the diameter of the outer race to press or drive the outer race and roller assembly into the counter bore of the carrier.
4. The shaft and carrier can now be installed in the impeller. Use the procedure starting with Step 17 in the Reference. To facilitate installing the outer race/roller, cool this item with dry ice or in a freezer before pressing it into the carrier. See Illustration 1 for correct orientation of the bearing components.
