Description of Change: A new double lip seal is used on the rockshaft. The new seal design will help prevent dirt from packing around the first lip, reducing the chance of leakage and mechanical failure.
In addition, the shape of the wear ring changed from a flat design to a "T" shaped design. See the illustration. The new wear ring makes it more difficult for fine dirt to enter the rockshaft seal area as it tightens the fit of the ring in the rockshaft cover as well as eliminates a direct path into the rockshaft seal area. The wear ring is also made of a more plyable plastic material that is more resistant to cold weather cracking.

Adaptable To: The new 143-0422 Seal Assembly cancels and replaces the 112-8436 Seal Assembly. The 143-0422 Seal Assembly is effective with Challenger 35 (8DN862), Challenger 45 (1DR1724), and Challenger 55 (7DM890) Agricultural Tractors.
The 143-0423 Wear Ring (T-shaped) cancels and replaces the 113-5440 Wear Ring (flat). The 143-0423 Wear Ring is effective with Challenger 35 (8DN901), Challenger 45 (1DR1806), and Challenger 55 (7DM983) Agricultural Tractors. Both the wear ring and seal assembly are adaptable to all earlier machines.
NOTE: The overall dimensions of the 143-0422 Seal Assembly have not changed. The current seal installer will work with the new seal assembly. (See the reference article.)
