New Transmission Control Group Improves Operator Comfort {3065}

Usage:

D250E (5TN),
D300E (7FN) Articulated Trucks

Description of Change:

NOTE: This article superceeds the article of the same title in the June 9, 1997 issue of Service Magazine.

A new transmission control group is now used to improve operator comfort. The new transmission control group has a plunger on the shift lever for positive gear selection. The former transmission control group used a slot with gates for positive gear lever placement.

Adaptable To: The new 141-4530 Transmission Control Group replaces the former 117-7543 Transmission Control Group. The new transmission control group is effective with D250E (5TN1130) and D300E (7FN536) Articulated Trucks. The necessary parts to install the new transmission control group on earlier machines are shown in the chart. Use the following method to install the new parts.

1. Remove shift knob (1) from shift lever assembly (2). Remove screws (3), washers (4) and cover assembly (5).

2. Remove screws (6) and raise shift lever assembly (2) and bracket assembly (7) away from the console. Unplug the wiring harness from the sensor group (8).

3. Remove sensor group (8) from the shaft within the housing attached to bracket assembly (7).

4. Remove shift lever assembly (2) from the shaft within the housing attached to bracket assembly (7).

6. Attach shift lever assembly (9) to the 6G-0001 Shaft within the 8W-0976 Housing attached to bracket assembly (10).

NOTE: The timing marks on the shaft and housing should be aligned. Install bolts but do not tighten until lever is adjusted.

7. Install the shift cane guide (11) on the bracket assembly (10) using screws (12).

8. With housing and shaft timing marks aligned, center shift lever assembly (9) on third gear position of shift cane guide (11) and tighten bolts.

9. Install sensor group (8) on the 6G-0001 Shaft within the 8W-0976 Housing attached to bracket assembly (10). Position sensor group (8) to correspond to gear selected on shift cane guide (11). Tighten bolts after checking reverse and first gear actuation.

10. Install the new shift lever assembly and bracket assembly, along with the sensor group, in the console. Use the original bolts and washers to hold the lever and bracket assembly in the console.

11. Install modified cover assembly (5) using the original retaining screws.

12. Install the plunger (13), spring (14), collar (15), and jam nut (16).

13. Install shift lever knob (17).
