Drawbar Reinforcement Plate Prevents Cracking In Severe Work Applications {6153}

Usage:

120H (4MK, 6NM),
135H (3YK) Motor Graders

Motor graders equipped with 8X-4266 Drawbar and Yoke Assembly (four shoe only) may experience some cracking in the drawbar. While performing some heavy work load applications, especially snow removal, severe shock loads may be encountered when the blade strikes frozen or immovable obstacles.

These shock loads may cause cracks to appear in the drawbar. Very cold temperatures may increase the severity of the cracking as brittleness of steel increases. If cracking occurs, and additional reinforcement is desired, a reinforcement plate can be fabricated and installed to increase the structural integrity.

Procedure To Install Reinforcement Plate To Drawbar

1. Fabricate the reinforcement plate out of high strength structural steel to the dimensions shown in Illustration 1 and Chart 1.

2. The necessary work can be accomplished by lifting and rotating the drawbar to the right and/or left.

3. If cracks are visible in the drawbar sections repair by grinding out the cracks then filling with weld. Grind the welds until they are smooth.

4. Weld the reinforcement plate to the draw bar and yoke assembly. Grind bevel groove weld (L) flush with bottom of yoke plate. See Illustration 2 and Chart 2.
