Reference: Special Instruction SEHS8713, "Repair Procedure For Rubber Drive Belts".
A field repair kit is now available for covering exposed cables on rubber drive belts. The kit is easy to use with only a few tools needed to complete the repair. Repairs can be made with the drive belt on or off the machine, the belt tensioned or relaxed. Repairs should be made as soon as possible after cables are exposed to prevent further corrosion of drive belt cables.
The 4C-2953 Caterpillar Rubber Drive Belt Repair Kit was developed to cover exposed cables, preventing further damage from corrosion. The repair kit was not developed to hold together broken cables.
Kit instructions and required tools for the repair can be found in Special Instruction SEHS8713, "Repair Procedure For Rubber Drive Belts". One repair kit contains enough repair material to cover an area 229×279×6 mm (9×11×.25 in). This area is slightly larger than a sheet of writing paper 6 mm (.25 in) deep.
The shelf life of the 4C-2953 Caterpillar Rubber Drive Belt Repair Kit is limited. If the kit must be stored, refrigerate the materials to prolong shelf life. Caterpillar recommends that only the quantity needed for a repair be purchased at one time. Stocking of the repair kit is NOT recommended.
NOTE: In order to provide the longest shelf life possible, no stock will appear in Morton. Place orders with Morton as usual and each order will be direct shipped from the supplier.
