Intake And Exhaust Valve Lash Increased{1105}

Usage:

Caterpillar Machines Powered By 3508 (7YG, 99W),
3512 (4WJ, 96Z),
Or 3516 (2PK, 54Z) Machine Engines

Some machines powered by these engines are operated in extremely adverse conditions ( such as very high ambient temperature, high altitude, high inlet air restriction, air system leaks) that can cause elevated exhaust temperatures. The elevated exhaust temperatures can result in insufficient hot running valve lash. Under normal operating conditions the valve lash was adequate.

To provide an extra margin for extreme operating conditions, the valve lash setting has been increased for the 3500 Family Of Diesel Engines. The new exhaust valve lash setting is 1.00 mm (.039 in). The new inlet valve lash setting is 0.50 mm (.020 in).

Engines known to be operating in extremely adverse conditions should have the valve lash changed to the new setting at the earliest convenient opportunity. Engines operating under normal conditions should have valves set to the new valve lash settings at the next normal adjustment interval.

The new valve lash setting is in effect with 3508 Machine Engines 7YG833 and 99W3406, 3512 Machine Engines 4WJ479 and 96Z906, 3516 Machine Engines 2PK534 and 54Z1021. The new valve lash setting is adaptable to all earlier 3500 Machine Engines.
