Tie Rods

Usage:

Remove & Install Tie Rods

NOTE: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

NOTE: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies for correct installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

1. Disconnect lubrication hose (1) from plug (2) at each end of steering link.

2. Use a screwdriver to remove retaining ring (3) and plug (2) at each end of steering link (4).

3. Install Tooling (A) in order to hold ballstud (5) while locknut (6) is being loosened.

4. Use tooling (B) to remove locknut (6). Remove locknut (6).

5. Use Tooling (C) to remove the ball stud. Refer to M0083629, Ball Stud Breaker, and M0083627, Hydraulic Power Unit, Tool Operating Manual, for the correct procedure to remove the ball stud. Repeat this step for the remaining steering link ball studs.

6. Use Tooling (D) to support the weight of steering link (4). The weight of steering link (4) is approximately 123 kg (271 lb).

7. Remove steering link (4).

8. Repeat Steps 1 through 7 in order to remove the opposite steering link.
