Usage:
Engine Overhaul Kits for C-12, C13 ACERT™, 3406E, C-15, C15 ACERT, and C-16
On-Highway Engines
(added Kits for C13 & C15 07 EPA Engines)
With the overwhelming acceptance of the previously announced Precious Metals engine overhaul kit program, Caterpillar is pleased to expand available offerings to include kits to support the C13 and C15 07 EPA engines. The improved overhaul kits provide all of the parts necessary to do an in-frame overhaul based on the customer or dealer needs. Time spent researching and ordering individual parts can be eliminated with prepackaged overhaul groups that can be stocked to meet immediate customer needs.
All kit consist information and model effectivity can be viewed in SISWEB (See “Where to Identify Available Kits” below). The following chart is available in this IRM to provide detailed information on the kits:
Appendix A: Kit Coverage Chart
There are 4 levels of kits: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
- Bronze - primarily a non-warranty repair option that includes a head gasket kit and all parts necessary for a lower-end overhaul. It forms the base consist for the Silver, Gold, and Platinum kits. (Note: The Bronze kits are intended to be as comprehensive a gasket kit as possible. In some cases, certain pieces are not included where they are used on only a small subset of engine arrangements or where there is a large variation of part numbers used across the various engine arrangements the kit will cover. Always review the kit consist against the specific engine arrangement to confirm if there are other items required. Examples include pre-cooler hoses, variable valve actuator studs, and additional parts needed for engines with brake savers)
- Silver - basic in-frame overhaul kit utilizing new parts targeted towards the customer who performs the work themselves or the independent shop. Includes Bronze kit, plus 6 pistons, rings, wrist pins and retainers.
- Gold – basic in-frame overhaul kit similar to Silver but utilizes Bronze kit plus Cat Reman Cylinder Packs which include the connecting rods. Cylinder Packs offer advantage of less labor to complete the repair.
- Platinum – complete overhaul kit which includes Bronze kit plus Reman Cylinder Packs, Reman cylinder head, Reman fuel injectors, Reman water pump, and Reman oil pump.
Appendix A includes a table showing the effectivity of the kits to engine arrangements. If your engine arrangement is not in the list of verified arrangements, one of the rebuild kits still could apply but will require you to validate the kit consist for your specific engine arrangement parts requirements. Where to Identify Available Kits
These rebuild kits are being published in the parts manuals within SISWEB to allow users to easily identify the specific consist of each kit. To find the kits available for a specific engine, there are a couple of options - Engine Rebuild Kits / Related Parts Selector Tool and SISWEB.
There are two ways to get to the Engine Rebuild Kits / Related Parts Selector Tool. One way is through our Dealer.cat.com website and the other is through SIS WEB. Both URL’s are below.
- Dealer.Cat.Com Website
- http://dealer.cat.com/rebuildkits
- SIS WEB “Under Additional Service Information”
- https://sis.cat.com URL
- https://sis.cat.com/sisweb URL
Once in the Engine Rebuild Kits / Related Parts Selector Tool, click on the in the bottom-right corner for directions on using the Tool.
To find the kits available for a specific engine using SISWEB, complete the following steps:
Step 1: In SISWEB, type in the Serial Number Prefix of the engine and select the Product Structure Access method from the Right side menu screen.
Step 2: Click on the “Service Equipment and Supplies”
Step 3: Select the “Kit-Rebuild” option
Step 4: Select the “Parts GP-Engine Overhaul” option that contains the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum options from which you can select your preferred option or drill down further within the kits to verify consist.
Notes for understanding the SISWEB parts page information
- Non-Serviced part numbers are italicized.
- A part number that is underlined with a Y in the note field indicates there is a separate illustration that provides more of a part number breakdown.
- Indentations in the Parts Name field are also used to distinguish part number consists. For example, in the illustration below, the 10R9346 consists of a 345-9172 Bronze kit and (6) 0R8915 Cylinder packs.
- Precious Metals Overhaul Kits may contain upgraded parts. These upgraded parts may not appear in your particular engine arrangement in TMI or SIS but they have been technically reviewed for compatibility with your application. Core Acceptance
CMIS2 supports an option for US dealers to process cores at either the kit or the Reman component level. US dealers will have to establish their preference and then CMIS2 will generate either individual component entitlements or a kit entitlement that the cores will be processed against. Within one dealership, all kits must be processed the same way.
For US dealers who select kit level processing, CMIS2 will generate one entitlement at the kit level. In this case SELD0315 Engine Overhaul Kits is the core acceptance criteria to reference.
Dealers outside the US will not have this option due to complexities related to import/export regulations on cores. For those dealers and any US dealers who don’t opt for the kit processing, CMIS2 will continue to generate Reman Core entitlements for the Reman components within the kits. Use the appropriate Core Acceptance Criteria to inspect and return the individual cores. The following Core Acceptance Criteria are available supporting these products.
