The cab rear window can be difficult to close. A "ramped" latch pawl striker insert needs to be attached to the inside surface of the cab. The latch pawl slides on the angled surface providing an easy closure.

Rework Procedure
1) Make sure the cab rear window is closed and latched. Mark the location of the window latch pawl as it contacts the inside surface of the rear cab structure.
2) Open the rear window. Position the 172-4174 (Striker) Bar on top of the rear channel against the inside surface of the rear cab sheet metal stucture. The Bar should be oriented with the tapped holes facing forward and the "ramp" forward and to the (tractor) right. The hole adjacent to the ramp should be aligned with the previously marked pawl position. The top of the Bar should be flush with the top of the cab window lip. (The sealant filler between the top of the channel and rear cab sheet metal may need to be carefully removed to allow the bar to be properly postioned.) Mark the three hole locations on the cab structure. (Refer to Illustrations 1 and 2.)
3) Using the Bar, transfer the hole locations to the rear of the cab sheet metal structure. Remove the Bar.
4) Drill a 4.8 mm (0.188 in) hole at each of the three locations.
5) Reposition the Bar inside the cab. Attach using (3) 6V-1232 Hex Socket Head Screws (2.4 mm) through the drilled holes.
6) Loosen the two jam nuts on either side of the latch pawl. Reposition the pawl and nuts as close to the latch handle as possible. Tighten the jam nuts.
7) Close window to check for proper latch operation.
8) Touch up paint the installed Bar and Screw heads as required.
