NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4742" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the April 6, 1999 (Revised June 1999) Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Affected Product and Illustration 4.

The auger frame assembly may come loose and require constant adjustment on certain AP-1000B, AP-1050B, and AP-1055B Asphalt Pavers; and on certain Barber-Greene BG-245C, BG-260C, and BG-2455C Asphalt Pavers manufactured by Caterpillar. The location of the raise lower cylinder contributes to this problem.

1. Move the machine to a safe working area.
2. Lower the augers to the down position.
3. Once the down position has been established raise the augers 2 inches and place blocking under the outer bearing supports. Lower the auger until it just touches the blocking.
4. All machines; Rework the left and right mainframes as shown (Illustration 1.)

5. Remove the following parts from the center auger cylinder mounting area. Reference parts manual KEBP0169-01 conveyor auger group. Qty. 6 - 8C6561 Bolt, Qty. 1 - 1330959 Cylinder, Qty. 1 - 1057206 Pin, Qty. 2 - 3B4640 Cotter Pin, Qty. 1 - 1033595 Shaft, Qty. 2 - 3B4631 Cotter Pin, Qty. 2 - 8T5361 Washer, Qty. 2 - 8T9393 Bolt, Qty. 2 - 8T4122 Washer, Qty. 1 - 1337162 Mounting Plate, Qty. 1 - 1093656 Elbow 90-Deg.
6. For the models AP-1050B, AP-1055B, BG-245C, and BG-2455C weld brackets 1687549 to the auger support as shown in Illustration 2.
7. For the models AP-1050B, AP-1055B, BG-245C, and BG-2455C rework the screed lift cylinder brackets as shown in Illustration 3.
8. For the models AP-1000B and BG-260C weld brackets 168-7549 to the auger support as shown i Illustration 4.
9. For the models AP-1000B and BG-260C weld brackets 168-7549 to the auger support as shown in Illustration 5.
10. All machines; Rework the back mainframe as shown in Illustration 6.
11. All machines; Install the larger 174-3073 Cylinder on the left side of the machine and the smaller 173-3072 Cylinder on the right side of the machine. See Illustration 7.
12. All machines; Install new hoses and hardware as shown in Illustration 8 and 9.
13. All machines; Install 173-3651 Pin and 174-3361 Spacers as shown in Illustration 10.
14. All machines; Move the tow-plates to the rear as shown in Illustration 10.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PURGING AIR FROM AUGER CYLINDERS.
A. Start the machine and raise the augers to the top most position by holding the switch in the up position. Note the augers may not raise evenly during this initial operation. Continue holding the switch in the up position for an additional 30 seconds when the augers are in the full up position.
B. Using the up/down switch lower the augers to the down position and hold the switch for 10 seconds.
C. Repeat step one and step two until the augers raise and lower equally.
