New Wheels (Housings) Need To Be Installed In The Rear Final Drive And Brake Groups Of Certain D40D Articulated Dump Trucks Caterpillar

NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3549" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3549" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Action Required

Parts Stock

Remove all 7U0775 Wheels from parts stock.

Affected Product

Follow the procedures in the Service Manual to replace the wheels (housings) and associated parts with the new parts.

NOTE: When replacing the wheels (housings), completely remove the final drive and wheel group from the axle housing to minimize alignment difficulties.

NOTE: Take care when removing the 3V2246 Studs. They will be reused in the new wheels. Thread the wheel nut onto the stud. Drive the stud from the wheel housing using a copper hammer.
