Rework Procedure

1. Drain and save the coolant from the radiator.

2. Remove the fan shroud and radiator assembly from the compactor.

3. Remove overflow hose and attachment clips from left side of radiator. Replacement clips are included in the 1020469 kit.

4. Remove the six bolts that fasten the fan shroud to the radiator.

5. Carefully remove the paint from the radiator side channels in the areas where the new support angles are to be welded. Refer to the illustration.

NOTE: If any cracking of the radiator side channel mounts is found, move the mounting position of the weldnuts, weld in place, and grind smooth prior to installing the support angles in Step 6.

6. Locate the new support angles on the side channels as shown in the illustration. Using the six bolts removed from the fan shroud, fasten the new support angles to the radiator side channels.

NOTE: Use a sufficient quantity of flat washers under the heads of the six bolts to limit the distance the bolts protrude through the side channel weld nuts. If the bolts protrude more that inch, they may damage the radiator core.

7. Cover the radiator core with rubber mats or sheet metal to protect it from damage during the process of welding the new support angles in place.

8. Using a wire-feed welder with .030 to.035 inch diameter wire, weld the new support angles in place as shown in the illustration. Weld each of the new support angles in four places down the side, 1 place at each end, and each front corner. Also, plug weld the slots on the sides of the support angles.

NOTE: Do not exceed 100-amp setting on welder to prevent damage to radiator core.

9. Remove bolts used to fasten the support angles to the radiator assembly during welding.

10. Locate the oil cooler mount plates as shown in the illustration. Use the same bolts removed in Step 9 to fasten the mount plates to the radiator side channels during welding.

11. Using the welding procedures in Step 8, weld the oil cooler mount Plates to the radiator side channels with a weld at the top and bottom of each plate. Refer to the illustration.

12. After welding is completed, clean and paint radiator side channels as necessary.

13. Attach the new radiator overflow hose clips on the left side of the radiator, and install the overflow hose.

14. Assemble the fan shroud to the radiator assembly.

15. Install the radiator/fan shroud assembly in the compactor.

16. Fill radiator with coolant to the proper level. Use coolant saved from Step 1.
