Longer Hinge Brackets Prevent Hoe-type Bucket Deformation{6503}

Usage:

All Backhoe Loaders

Description of Change: Effective with 416 Backhoe Loader 5PC6079, 426 Backhoe Loader 7BC1838, 428 Backhoe Loader 6TC2610, and first production of 436 and 438 Backhoe Loaders, changes were made to the mounting hinge brackets on all the hoe-type buckets. The reason for these changes is to give higher digging forces. This has caused the backs of the 762 mm (30") and the 914 mm (36") hoe-type buckets to bend in some applications. Also, the torque tube at the top of the bucket can deform upward.

Two improvements have been made to ALL types of hoe-type buckets. Longer hinge brackets are used that extend further down the back of the buckets. This spreads the digging forces over a larger area of the back of the bucket. And, the torque tube has a larger cross section.

Adaptable To: Part numbers of the various hoe-type buckets remain the same. The new buckets can be used as direct replacements for the former buckets. Or, the former buckets on the previously listed machines with the higher digging force can be reinforced by making the hinge brackets longer. Also, if desired, two plates can be added to the front of the torque tube.

1. Make copies of Illustration 1. Cut out the copies of Plates (A) and (B) and tape them together at points (1) and (2). These two plates together will form the full size template for reinforcement plate (A-B). This complete plate is represented by the reduced size in Illustration 2.

Illustration 1. Actual size template to use for plate (A-B).

2. Use the full size template to cut out two plates (A-B). Use high strength structural steel, 16 mm (.625") thick. This is the same thickness as the hinge brackets on the back of the bucket.

Illustration 2. The complete plate (A-B) - size is reduced.

3. If the torque tube across the top of the bucket is to be reinforced, cut and bend two plates shown in Illustration 3. Use 6 mm (.250") thick steel.

Illustration 3. Dimensions for the two torque tube plates.

4. Weld plates (A-B) to the back of the bucket and to the bottom end of each hinge bracket. See Illustration 4.

Illustration 4. Locations of plates (A-B) below the hinge brackets, and the torque tube plates if needed.

5. The locations of the two optional reinforcement plates for the torque tube are shown in Illustrations 4 and 5.

Illustration 5. Locations of torque tube plates, if needed. The 914 mm (36") bucket is shown.
