New Coolant Temperature Regulator Housing And Vent Line Valve Give Better Control Of Engine Cooling; Conversion Kits Available{1380,1355}

Usage:

3208 Engines In All Applications except Maxine Engines

SUPPLEMENT: 09/15/80

SERVICE MAGAZINE, OCTOBER 22, 1979, PAGE 3. In the article "New Coolant Temperature Regulator Housing And Vent Line Valve Give Better Control Of Engine Cooling; Conversion Kits Available", two changes are needed. First, change the sub-title to read "3208 Engines In All Applications Except Marine Engines". Second, remove the word "Marine" and the Serial Number "75V4932" from the Serial Number Chart.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: A new coolant temperature regulator (thermostat) housing and gasket, and a new vent line valve assembly are used in 3208 Engines. The new regulator housing and gasket have smaller openings for a better fit around the temperature regulators. This gives a tighter seal to prevent leakage of coolant around the regulators. The new vent valve fits into the bleed hole in the engine front housing, near the upper temperature regulator. The valve lets air out when the cooling system is filled, but prevents coolant flow during engine operation. Formerly, the flow of coolant through the bleed hole, and possible leakage around the regulators caused low engine temperatures in some light load conditions.

Adaptable To: The new parts are in effect on 3208 Engines with the serial numbers shown in the Serial Number Chart. For conversion of earlier engines, two new vent line valve kits are available as shown in the Conversion Kit Chart. Special Instruction Form SMHS7517 is sent with each kit for modification of the engine front housing to install the new valve, and installation of parts.
