3208 Truck Engines Equipped With Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems (40S)
In California, low emission 3208 Truck Engines in on-highway trucks must be equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Systems. Two new tools are now available for correct maintenance of these engines. The 5P7345 Gauge is used to calibrate (adjust) the butterfly valve to the solenoid in the EGR system (Illustration 1). The 5P6602 Adapter is used instead of the standard 5P4226 Adapter when the fuel setting is made or checked (Illustration 2).

Illustration 2. 5P6602 Adapter.
The 5P7345 Gauge is to be used as follows:
1. Remove EGR tube and actuator cover.
2. Turn lever (A) clockwise and put 5P7345 Gauge into opening (B). Install nut on stud to hold the gauge in place (Illustration 3).
Illustration 3. Installation of 5P7345 Gauge.
3. Loosen locknut (C) on actuator rod. Loosen rod from rod end (D) a few turns. Then turn rod into rod end until resistance is felt (Illustration 4).
4. Tighten locknut to 31.2 ± 4.5 lb in (3.52 ± 0.55 N·m). Remove 5P7345 Gauge and install EGR tube and actuator cover.
Illustration 4. Adjust linkage of actuator to EGR valve.
The 5P6602 Adapter, which is a direct replacement for the 5P4226 Adapter, can be used on all sleeve metering fuel systems.
NOTE: For a complete explanation of the EGR system, with details of operation, specifications and service information, see "Service Manual for Low Emission 3208 Engines with Exhaust Gas Recirculation-Serial Numbers 40S1-up", Form SENR7455. This form is for use in the Service Manual for 3208 Truck Engines, Form SEBR0506.
