Extending "Oil Change Intervals" based on Oil Analysis results can be detrimental in some applications. Camshaft and/or camshaft follower damage may result before historic indicators of a need to change oil are present. Marine propulsion applications, start/stop applications, and lightly loaded applications are at risk. In these applications and if cam problems have already been experienced (all applications), the Operation and Maintenance Manual recommendation for "Oil Change Interval" should be followed -regardless of Oil Analysis results. Other areas of the engine may experience premature wear as the oil lubrication ability degrades with age.
