Installation Procedure For Seals On Cab Doors{7308}

Usage:

All Series "
G"
Motor Graders

There are two types of adhesives and two procedures that can be used to make sure the rubber seals are installed correctly on cab doors when a replacement is necessary. Either a contact adhesive or an air dry adhesive can be used. Scotch-Grip Contact Cement #4729 is a contact adhesive that can be used. Scotch-Grip Rubber Adhesive EC1300 is an air dry adhesive that can be used. Both adhesives are available from:

3M Company
Adhesives, Coatings And Sealers Division
2501 Hudson Road
St. Paul, Minnesota 55119
U.S.A.

Use the procedure that follows for the correct use of the adhesives:

1. Make sure all the old adhesive material is removed from the door. Use a solvent (a paint thinner with an alcohol, turpentine or mineral spirits base) to make sure the surface of the seal is clean.

2. Before application of the adhesive, make sure the surface of the cab door is clean, dry, free from grease, oil and rust.

3. Make sure the temperature of the adhesive material is above 15°C (60°F) when used.

4. Make sure the adhesive material is mixed thoroughly. All of the adhesive should be of the same color and texture.

If contact adhesives are used:

1. Put a 0.25 mm (.010") thickness of the contact adhesive on the surface of the seal and cab door that will make contact. See the illustration. Let the adhesive become dry until it can be touched without any adhesive material being removed.

NOTICE

The seal can not be easily moved when the adhesive on the door makes contact with the adhesive on the seal. Do not put pressure against the seal to hold it in place until it is in the correct position.

2. Put the seals in position on the door. Use pressure to make sure the two surfaces of adhesive material are together.

If air dry adhesives are used:

1. Put a 0.25 mm (.010") thickness of the air dry adhesive on the surface of the seal and cab that will make contact. See the illustration. Let the adhesive dry for one to two minutes.

NOTICE

The seal must be installed on the door before the adhesive becomes dry.

2. Put the seals in position on the cab door. Put pressure on the seal to make sure all the surfaces of the air dry adhesive are in contact. The seal can be moved for a short amount of time.

It may be necessary to make an adjustment to the position of the cab door after new seals are installed. If the door does not close correctly or if an unusual amount of force is needed to open the cab door, use the procedure that follows to make the necessary adjustment.

1. Loosen the bolts that hold the hinge on the cab door in position on the cab.

2. Close the door. Check the space between the door lip and the cab all around the door. The space should be 4 mm (.16"). Tighten the bolts on the hinge when the door is in the correct position.

3. If the door does not close correctly or is hard to open, add shims to the striker on the door post as necessary.
