Correct Oil Pressure Setting For Marine Transmissions

Usage:

MG506 And MG507 Marine Transmissions Used With 3208 Engines

It is important to use the correct pressure control valve group with the correct pressure setting on MG506 and MG507 Transmissions used with 3208 Engines.

There are two pressure control valve groups used on the MG506 and MG507 Transmissions. These groups and their correct applications are shown in the chart.

The pressure setting components of the pressure control valves are shown in the chart that follows.

MG507 Transmissions used on 3208 DITA Engines (355 bhp at 2800 rpm) must have the 2N8875 Control Valve Group with 2050 to 2200 kPa (300 to 320 psi) oil pressure. Some earlier MG507 Transmissions had control valves with a pressure setting of 1690 to 1755 kPa (245 to 255 psi). These control valves can be changed to the higher pressure setting. To do this, remove the spring assembly and shims from the control valve and install a 2N9020 Spring Assembly with the 2N9023 Shims needed to get a pressure of 2050 to 2200 kPa (300 to 320 psi).

MG506 Transmissions used on 3208 DIT Engines (300 bhp at 2800 rpm) must have the 3T5161 Control Valve Group with 2400 to 2540 kPa (350 to 370 psi) oil pressure. Earlier control valves can be changed to get this pressure. To do this, remove the 2N9020 Spring Assembly and 2N9023 Shims from the control valve. Install a 3T5191 Spring Assembly and the 6L9870 Shims needed to get a pressure of 2400 to 2540 kPa (350 to 370 psi).
