Fuel Priming Pump - Remove and Install

Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.

Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.

Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over any disconnected fuel system components.


  1. Turn the fuel supply to the off position.

  2. Turn the battery system to the off position.

  3. Remove bolts (1) and shield assembly (2).

  4. Remove bolts (3) and lid (4).

  5. Remove cable strap (6) and disconnect harness assembly (7).

  6. Disconnect hose assembly (5).

  7. Remove bolts (9) and fuel priming pump assembly (8).

  8. Remove bracket assembly (10) and the O-ring seal from fuel priming pump (11).

  9. Remove bolts (12) and fuel priming pump (11) from base (13).

  10. Remove the O-ring seal from fuel priming pump (11).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel priming pump (11) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (A) to bolts (12).

    2. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 6 ± 1 N·m (53 ± 9 lb in).
