Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Transmission case beat in and wear has been observed at the clutch plate splines on transmissions in the field. There is no published reusability and salvage guideline to help determine an acceptable level of case beat in and wear currently. To date there have been no known failures associated with case wear.
Solution
A new salvage and reusability guideline is being established. Until a publication is released with further direction, submit a Caterpillar Dealer Solutions Network (DSN) request for any concerns of observed case wear encountered for a reusability recommendation. Document the vehicle application, mileage and transmission hours, typical loads and a Product Status Report along with the DSN.
