Service Tool Requirement - Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) 2015C or later required for this software release

New Features

Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Inducement Emergency Override

In case of emergency situations, the EPA allows the override of SCR Inducements. This feature can be enabled through Cat ET service tool. Once enabled (factory password required), this feature provides 120 hours of inducement free operation. The override timer can be activated with either a physical switch (J1-22 on A5E2) or Cat ET service tool.

Caterpillar Regeneration System (CRS) Lean Burn Strategy

Lean burn strategy has been added to startup mode (SM) and maintenance timer (MTB) regens. This reduces the potential of regen issues related to a sooted up flame temp sensor.

Enhancements to Existing Features

Flexxaire Settings

Issue

Operator is unable to adjust purge settings.

Resolution

Default Purge Settings changed from 2 hours to 18 hours and duration from 5 seconds to 60 seconds. This setting is configurable in the Cat ET service tool.

Eliminate Key Off Cycle -7 Code False Trip

Issue

The -7 code is not persistent active during key cycle.

Resolution

Make the injector not responding code persistent active over key cycle for better troubleshooting.

Change -7 Code Tripping Thresholds

Issue

The -7 code is tripped excessively and the -7 code causes dealers to replace injectors when this error code is found.

Resolution

Improved sensitivity to the -7 code to reduce false trip and unnecessary injector changes.

-499 Code False Trip

Issue

The -499 code is false tripping. This drives replacement of the high-pressure pump. The high volume of returned pumps is showing no fault found.

Resolution

Changed the sensitivity and severity of diagnostic code E499 to eliminate false trips.

Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Inducement Faults Snapshot

Issue

The operator is unable to use tool for troubleshooting.

Resolution

Removed the Snapshot support for the SCR inducement faults.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Quality Detection

Issue

The DEF quality sensor is unable to detect degraded concentration under certain conditions.

Resolution

The timer was changed to meet the sampling requirements.

SPN 7502 Support for Mid Range (MR)

Issue

No Aftertreatment requested engine speed available in Mid Range Engines.

Resolution

Aftertreatment Engine Speed request has been added to align with the Heavy Duty (HD) Strategy

Active Regeneration Device (ARD) Nozzle Heater Diagnostic

Issue

Code 3182-4 Aftertreatment #1 Fuel Injector #1 Heater : Voltage Below Normal clears on key cycle and does not remain an active diagnostic for troubleshooting issue.

Resolution

Changed the code to be persistent active when tripped for better troubleshooting.

Fixes

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Tank and Coolant Temperature Kick Out

Issue

During the Aftertreatment function test, the test immediately aborts if conditions are not met.

Resolution

Changed initiate requirements to allow preconditions of coolant temperature to be met then DEF conditions. If DEF conditions are not meet, the Aftertreatment function test will abort.

Cooling System Capacity Test

Issue

The EGR Gas MASS Flow is unavailable in the Cooling System Capacity Test forcing technician to abort test to view EGR Gas MASS Flow.

Resolution

Added Exhaust Gas Mass Flow Rate status parameter to Cooling System Capacity Test

Caterpillar Regeneration System (CRS) Nozzle Heater

Issue

The CRS nozzle heater shorten cycle was causing heater nozzle plugging.

Resolution

CRS nozzle heater timer resets and timer durations have been updated to correct this issue.

Post Regen Main Fuel Spritz

Issue

A popping sound is noticed during the post regeneration main fuel spritz.

Resolution

Spark has been disabled during the main fuel spritz action.

Maintenance Timer (MTB)

Issue

Forced MTB regens with the auto regen capability disabled on applications are unable to reset the regen trigger request. This is leading subsequent regen requests without the trigger getting reset. This can lead to operator confusion in the field.

Resolution

Logic was updated to go from MTB to Non-MTB at the end of the regen. This will allow the reset.

Low Battery Voltage Diagnostic

Issue

False trip battery diagnostic during operator forced shutdown. This creates derate without active fault code.

Resolution

Robustness of diagnostic was improved to reduce false tripping and derate issue.

DPF #1 Intake Pressure Sensor Out of Calibration

Issue

False trip code 3464-13 under cold ambient temperature.

Resolution

Changed the minimum DPF inlet temperature condition set point for DPF Intake Pressure Sensor Code 3464-13.

SCR Inducement DEF Control Unit Faults

Issue

DCU faults were considered tampering faults which caused downtime and loss of productivity

Resolution

DCU faults have been categories into tampering and non-tampering. This new change will trigger final inducement in 20 hours and is applicable for EPA regulation.

NOx Sensor J1939 Datalink Faults

Issue

Logged 5856-9 Data Link #3: Abnormal update Rate being logged.

Resolution

Changed ECM request rate for NOx Sensor reading to match J1939 requests.

Fuel Pressure Sensor False Trip

Issue

During sudden Engine Speed Drops or key cycle the after fuel filter pressure sensor experience momentary vacuum this created false trip of 460-21 code.

Resolution

Debounce time was extended to allow sensor recover.

Low Fuel Pressure Events

Issue

Level 1 low fuel pressure events are unavailable for DOC protection.

Resolution

Added Level 1 low fuel pressure event.

Low EGR Delta Pressure Event

Issue

False during on Low EGR delta P.

Resolution

Improved diagnostics for EGR absolute pressure sensor and EGR differential pressure sensor.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) (ABS) & (DP) Sensor out of Calibration

Issue

EGR Absolute (ABS) and EGR Differential Pressure false tripping in cold ambient conditions.

Resolution

Changed minimum conditions at cold ambient and zero engine speed to reduce false tripping.

Level 1 Coolant Derate

Issue

Level 1 Coolant Temperature event comes up when the EGR protection derate occurs.

Resolution

Separated the EGR derate from the PMS level 1 trip point. EGR derate of 20 percent is applied if the coolant temperature increases to 109° C (228° F).

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) delta Pressure Incorrect Diagnostic

Issue

Diesel Particulate Filter #1 Differential Pressure Sensor Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect Diagnostic (3251-2) falsely tripped in colder months.

Resolution

Trip point update to make persistent active.
