3412 Generator Set Caterpillar

Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot an engine overspeed or use this procedure if the following diagnostic code is active.

190-00 Engine Speed Sensor : High	35	The engine has exceeded the trip point for engine overspeed for the delay time.	The code is logged. Also, the shutdown solenoid will de-energize until the engine speed is below 2420 rpm.

Probable Causes

• Intake air is combustible.

• Sudden drop of load

Troubleshooting Test Steps	Value	Results
1. Check for Hydrocarbons in the Surrounding Atmosphere Around the Engine.	Hydrocarbons	Result : There are no hydrocarbons present. Proceed to Test Step 2. Result : There are hydrocarbons present. Repair : Do not operate the engine in an environment with hydrocarbons in the surrounding atmosphere. Locate the source of the hydrocarbons and repair. If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check for a Sudden Drop of Load.	Engine Load	Result : There is a sudden drop in the engine load. Repair : Drop the engine load slowly.
