Start By:
- Remove the catalyst inlet temperature sensor.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool. |
Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 half-face respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury. |
- Loosen clamp assembly (1) and band clamp (5). Remove tube assembly (4).
- Disconnect clamp assemblies (3).
- Use a suitable lifting device to remove catalyst (SCR) (2). The weight of catalyst (SCR) (2) is approximately
136 kg (300 lb) .Show/hide tableIllustration 2 g03756361 - Loosen band clamp (6) and remove bellows assembly (7).
- Discard band clamp (5) and band clamp (6).

Note: When installing a new catalyst or a cleaned catalyst, a SCR reset must be performed. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8180, "Aftertreatment Filter Maintenance on Tier 4 Final Products Equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), and a Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Filter" for the correct procedure.
- Install catalyst (SCR) (2) in the reverse order of removal.
- Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of clamp assemblies (3) along Distance (X). Distance (X) is
25 mm (1 inch) above the trunnion. Tighten clamp assemblies (3) to a torque of16.5 ± 1.5 N·m (146 ± 13 lb in) .Show/hide tableIllustration 4 g03386044 Cutaway view of band clamp (5) and band clamp (6) in position on the assembly. Note: Do not use power tools in order to torque band clamp (5) and band clamp (6).
- Verify that the cup of the Ball Joint (G) does not touch the radius of the Ball (F). Position band clamp (5) and band clamp (6), hand tighten band clamp (5) and band clamp (6). Band clamp (5) and band clamp (6) should be in the center of the joint.
- Dimension (C) and Dimension (D) should be equal within
2.0 mm (0.08 inch) . Repeat the measurements every 90° around band clamp (5) and band clamp (6). If necessary, adjust band clamp (5) and band clamp (6). - Torque band clamp (5) and band clamp (6) to a torque of
35 ± 2 N·m (26 ± 1 lb ft) .
