Cat fuel filters are built to Cat specifications. Use of fuel filters not recommended by Caterpillar could result in damage to the fuel system, and other components. This damage is the result of contaminants and other particles from unfiltered fuel entering the fuel system. Only use fuel filters recommended by Caterpillar. |
- Stop the engine. Ensure that the engine will not start during this procedure.
- Shut off the fuel supply valve to the engine.

NOTICE Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.
Show/hide tableNOTICE Use a suitable container to catch any fuel that might spill. Clean up any spilled fuel immediately.
Show/hide tableIllustration 1 g03754121 - Loosen drain valve (1). Prepare to catch the fuel that is inside the filter case with a suitable container.
- Unscrew the element (2) with a suitable Cat filter strap wrench.
- Inspect the O-ring seals. Obtain new seal rings if the old seal rings are damaged or deteriorated. Ensure that the sealing surfaces for the seals are clean. Install the seals.

NOTICE Do not fill the fuel filters with fuel before installing them. The fuel would not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
- Place the element on to the base.
- Thread the element onto the base until the seal contacts the base.
- Tighten the element according to the instructions listed on the element.
