Usage:

UPS 750 CPM
The system should be installed per the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the local codes.

Input/Output Cabinet

The Input/Output cabinet receives following items for the system: the input cables for three-phase AC power, output cables for three-phase AC power, the ground cables and the neutral cables. Neutral cables are used only in systems that have four wires for the input power. The cabinet can accommodate the entry of the cable from the top of the cabinet or from the bottom of the cabinet.

There are six galvanized steel panels that are on the Input/Output Cabinet for the entry of the conduit. The panels are made of 12 gauge metal. The panels are removable. Three panels are located on top of the cabinet and three panels are located on the bottom of the cabinet. Each of the access plates that are located on the bottom of the Input/Output Cabinet can have a total of six holes with a diameter of 114.30 mm (4.50 inch). The panels that are located on the top of the cabinet are distributed in the following way: one panel for input one of the MMU, one panel for the bypass input of the MMU and one panel for the system output of the MMU. The panels that are located on the bottom of the cabinet are distributed in the following way: one panel for input one of the MMU, one panel for the bypass input of the MMU and one panel for the system output of the MMU. Holes must be punched in the field for the entry of the cable in order to accommodate the configuration of the system.

The Three-Phase AC Input Cables and the Three-Phase AC Output Cables are connected to a plated copper bus bar. The bus bar is drilled and tapped for 13 mm (0.5 inch) bolts. The holes are spaced for the following components: long barrel lugs with one hole and long barrel lugs with two holes.

The ground cable is connected to a plated copper bus bar. The bus bar is drilled for 13 mm (0.5 inch) hardware. The holes are spaced for NEMA lugs with one hole.

The torque for the wire connections is 56.5 N·m (42 lb ft).

Note: Only NEMA lugs should be used.

Note: The lugs and the cable are not supplied.

Route the ground cables into the system cabinet. Use the output holes that are punched in the system cabinet.

Refer to NEC Article 210-19 and refer to NEC Table 310-16 for the correct size of the cables.

Refer to NEC Article 250-95 for the correct size of the ground.

Refer to NEC Article 310-15 for the correct size of the neutral.

Note: A service disconnect device must be installed. This device must be rated properly for the output power.

Input/Output Cabinet to AC Power Connections in the System Cabinet

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. requires that this system must be installed with an appropriately rated service disconnect device for the output power.

If required by local and/or national regulations, appropriately rated service disconnect devices must be provided for the input power and for the output power.

Overcurrent protection must be provided externally to the UPS. Overcurrent protection must comply with the national codes and the local codes.

------ CAUTION! ------

To reduce the risk of fire, connect only to a circuit provided with 2000 Amperes maximum branch circuit overcurrent protection in accordance with National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.


The connections for the Input/Output cabinet to the System cabinet are made by using plated copper bus bars.

Note: The bus bar and the hardware are supplied.

Installation Procedure for the Bus Bars for the Input of the MMU (Phase C)

  1. Locate the bus bars with copper plating for the Input Bus (MMU).

  1. Position the two connection bus bars on top of the input bus bar.

  1. Install flat washers on the two bolts. Install the bolts at location number (1). Install the bolts from the top to the bottom. Install the bolts through the following components: the two connection bus bars and the input bus bar for the MMU. Install the flat washer first. Install the belleville washer next. Then, install the nut.

  1. Install flat washers on two bolts. Install the bolts at location number (2). Install the bolts from the bottom to the top. Install the bolts through the following components: the two connection bus bars and the input bus bar for the MMU. Install the flat washer first. Install the belleville washer next. Then, install the nut.

  1. Torque the nuts to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  1. Proceed to the following instructions: "Installation for the Bus Bar for the Bypass Input (Phase C)".

  1. Locate the bus bars for the bypass input bus.

  1. Position the two connection bus bars to the bypass input bus bars.

  1. Install flat washers on the two bolts. Install the bolts at location number (3). Install the bolts from the top to the bottom. Install the bolts through the following components: the two connection bus bars and the input bus bar for the Bypass. Install the flat washer first. Install the belleville washer next. Then, install the nut.

  1. Install flat washers on two bolts. Install the bolts at location number (4). Install the bolts from the bottom to the top. Install the bolts through the following components: the two connection bus bars and the input bus bar for the Bypass. Install the flat washer first. Install the belleville washer next. Then, install the nut.

  1. Torque the nuts to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  1. Proceed to the following instructions: "Installation for the Bus Bar for the System Output (Phase C)".

  1. Locate the plated copper bus bars for the Output Bus (System).

  1. Position the two connection bus bars below the bus bars (system output).

  1. Install flat washers on two bolts. Install the bolts at location number (5). Install the bolts from the top to the bottom. Install the bolts through the following components: the two connection bus bars and the bus bar (system output). Install the flat washer first. Install the belleville washer next. Then, install the nut.

  1. Install flat washers on two bolts. Install the bolts at location number (6). Install the bolts from the bottom to the top. Install the bolts through the following components: the two connection bus bars and the bus bar (system output). Install the flat washer first. Install the belleville washer next. Then, install the nut.

  1. Torque the nuts to 45 ft lb.

    Connect the ground cable for the system cabinet to the ground bus in the Input/Output cabinet. Use the 13 mm (0.5 inch) bolt, the washers, the belleville washers, and the nuts.

Then, install the nut.

  1. Install flat washers on two bolts. Install the bolts at location number (6). Install the bolts from the bottom to the top. Install the bolts through the following components: the two connection bus bars and the bus bar (system output). Install the flat washer first. Install the belleville washer next. Then, install the nut.

  1. Torque the nuts to 45 ft lb.

    Connect the ground cable for the system cabinet to the ground bus in the Input/Output cabinet. Use the 13 mm (0.5 inch) bolt, the washers, the belleville washers, and the nuts.

    Note: The ground bus is located by the left panel that is near the top of the system cabinet.

  1. Install flat washers on two of the 38.0 mm (1.5 inch) long bolts. Install the bolts at location number (1) from the bottom to the top. Install the bolts through the bypass input bar and through the two offset bent connection bus bars. Install a flat washer, and a belleville washer. Then, hand tighten the nut.

  1. Install a bolt and a nut at location number (2) in order to hold the link alignment temporarily. Torque the nuts that are located at location number (1) .

    Note: The straight connection bus bars are not installed yet. The process is used to allow access for torquing the nuts at location number (1) .

  1. Torque the nuts at location number (1) to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  1. Remove the bolt that was temporarily installed at location number (2) .

  1. Position two flat connection bus bars above the input bus bar of the MMU.

  1. Install flat washers on two of the 50 mm (2 inch) bolts. Install the bolts at location number (2) from the top to the bottom. Install the bolts through the flat connection bus bars, the input bus bars for the MMU, and the two offset bent connection bus bars. Install a flat washer, a belleville washer, and a nut. Then, hand tighten the nut.

  1. Install flat washers on two of the 38 mm (1.5 inch) bolts. Install the bolts at location number (3) from the bottom to the top. Install the bolts through the input bus bars of the MMU and the two straight connection bus bars. Install a flat washer, a belleville washer, and a nut. Then, hand tighten the nut.

  1. Torque the nuts at location number (2) and location number (3) to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  1. Proceed to the following instructions: "Installation for the Bus Bar for the System Output (Phase C)".

  1. Locate the plated copper bus bars for the Output Bus (System).

  1. Position two connection bus bars below the bus bars (system output).

  1. Install flat washers on two of the 38 mm (1.5 inch) bolts. Install the bolts at location number (5) from the top to the bottom. Install the bolts through the bus bar (system output) and the two connection bus bars. Install a flat washer and a belleville washer. Then, install the nut.

  1. Install flat washers on two of the 38 mm (1.5 inch) bolts. Install the bolts at location number (6) from the top to the bottom. Install the bolts through the bus bar (system output) and the two connection bus bars. Install a flat washer and belleville washer. Then, install the nut.

  1. Torque the nuts to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

    Note: The ground bus is located near the top of the left panel of the system cabinet.

  1. Torque the nuts at location number (1) to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  1. Remove the bolt that was temporarily installed at location number (2) .

The power cable that goes between the cabinet for the MMU and the System cabinet is a 4/0 X-Flex cable. There are two cables for every voltage phase. The cables are rated for 105 °C (221 °F). The cables are rated for 600 V.

Note: The cable and the hardware are supplied.

The connection for the ground for the MMU cabinet to the System cabinet is made by using a 4/0 X-Flex cable that is rated at 105 °C (221 °F) and 600 V.

The cables for AC power begin at the tab for the distribution bus that is located on the left panel (component) in the MMU cabinet. The cables for AC power terminate in the System cabinet. The cables terminate at the connection socket that is assigned.

The cables for ground begin at the tab for the ground bus that is located on the left panel (component) in the MMU cabinet. The cables for ground terminate at the ground node that is located on the right wall in the Input/Output cabinet.

Note: Use the sequence that is shown in the following illustrations to install the cables.

Note: The installation of the cable should start with the MMU that is positioned to the right of the System cabinet. The cabinet to the right of the System cabinet is "MMU-1". The MMU that is to the right of "MMU-1" will be "MMU-2". Each MMU will be numbered in this consecutive order.

Note: The cables for the AC input of "MMU-1" must be connected first. The cables for the AC output must be connected after the "MMU-1" cables.

Note: Ensure that proper phase rotation is maintained at all times.

AC Output Cable Connections from the MMU to System Cabinet

Note: The MMU to System cabinet AC input cables are indicated by a solid black line.

MMU to System cabinet AC output cables are indicated by a dashed black line.

  1. Connect the output cables for the three-phase power to the tab (power distribution bus) that is located on the panel (left component). Torque the bolts to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).

  1. Install the cables along the "frame C" channel. Continue the installation toward the back of the MMU and exit through the hole for the access of the cable. The hole for the access of the cable is located at the top of the cabinet for the MMU. The label on the hole is "MMU 1 Output".

  1. Extend the cables through the trough for the cable to the system cabinet. Insert the cable into the hole for the entry of the cable. The label on the hole is "MMU 1 Output".

  1. Connect the cables to the output isolation switch for MMU 1. Torque the bolts to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).

MMU to System Cabinet AC Input Cable Connections

Note: Ensure that proper phase rotation is maintained at all times.

  1. Connect the input cables for three-phase power to the tab on the power distribution bus that is located on the panel (left component). Torque the bolts to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).

  1. Connect the ground cable to the power distribution terminal block that is located on the panel (left component). Torque the bolts to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).

  1. Install the cables along the "frame C" channel. Continue the installation toward the back of the MMU and exit through the hole for the access of the cable. The hole for the access of the cable is located at the top of the cabinet for the MMU. The label on the hole is "MMU 1 Input".

  1. Extend the cables through the trough for the cable to the system cabinet. Insert the cable into the hole for the entry of the cable. The label on the hole is MMU 1 Input.

  1. Connect the ground cable to the ground node that is located on the right wall of the input/output cabinet.

  1. Connect the AC input cables to the input isolation switch for MMU 1. Torque the bolts to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).

MMU to System Cabinet Ground Cable Connection

  1. Connect the ground cables from the cabinet of the MMU to the ground node that is located on the right wall in the input/output cabinet. Torque the bolts to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).

  1. Repeat the procedures for each additional MMU that is included in the system.

Neutral Cable Connections in Four Wire Systems

The following drawings show the connection point for the systems that are utilizing a" Neutral" cable connection. There will be one 10 AWG neutral cable and two 4/0 AWG neutral cables that are located inside the System cabinet. The neutral cables will be connected to the neutral terminal of the "K5" contactor. The "K5" contactor is mounted on the right side of the component cabinet. The neutral cables will be wound together and the neutral cables will be secured with tie wraps. Label the neutral cables "Neutral Bus". Lay neutral cables on the base plate of the system cabinet.

  1. Unwind the 4/0 AWG cables. Insert the cables through the holes for the access of the cable that is located on the panel (left component). Insert the cables between the system cabinet and the input/output cabinet.

    Note: There are two 4/0 cables for each MMU.

  1. Secure the cables to the neutral bus bars with the hardware that is provided.

  1. Torque the bolts to 120.0 N·m (88.5 lb ft).

  1. Unwind the 10 AWG cables. Route the cables from the system cabinet through the trough for the power cable. Secure the cable on the neutral bus with the hardware that is provided.

    Note: There is one 10 AWG cable for each MMU.

Note: Use a three-wire disconnect switch only on the input power to the UPS. Do not disconnect the neutral connection for the input power for the equipment. The equipment neutral must remain securely connected to the source neutral at all times.

Interface Connections

Customer interfaces are accessible through a System I/O (SIO) Board and System I/O Daughter (SIOD) Board. The boards are located on the panel (left component) in the MMU, the System cabinet, and the Parallel Cabinet Interface Board. The Parallel Cabinet Interface Board is located on the panel (left component) in the System cabinet.

Route the interface cables as far away from the power cables as possible in order to minimize the EMI. The interface cables exit the MMU cabinet through the top access port for the control wiring. The interface cables enter the System cabinet through the point of entry that is for the control wiring of the MMU.

UPS NET Connections

Initial Setup Procedure for UPS NET

Note: The main electrical connections that are between the System Cabinet and each MMU should be made by the contractor that is installing the system. The main electrical connections that are between the System Cabinet and each MMU must be made before performing the following procedures.

  1. Place the key switch for the System Cabinet and the key switches for the MMU in BYPASS.

  1. Remove the sheet metal panels and remove the panel for the System Input/Output board on each MMU and the System Cabinet. The System Input/Output board is located in the lower left side of the cabinet.

Primary Cable Connections for UPS NET

Note: "J8" is a single connector with two "RJ45" ports.

  1. Connect a network cable from connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output board in the System Cabinet to connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output board in MMU 1.

  1. Connect a network cable from connector "J8B" on the System Input/Output board in MMU 1 to connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output board in MMU 2.

  1. Connect a network cable from connector "J8B" on the System Input/Output board in MMU 2 to connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output board in MMU 3.

  1. Connect a network cable from connector "J8B" on the System Input/Output board in MMU 3 to connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output board in MMU 4.

  1. Install a network cable terminator in the last MMU that is connected to the system. Verify the presence of a network cable terminator in the connector "J8B" of the System Input/Output board in the System Cabinet.

Secondary Network Setup

Note: "J8" is a single connector with two" RJ45" ports.

  1. Connect a cable (network) from the connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output Daughter board in the System Cabinet to the connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output Daughter board of MMU 1.

  1. Connect a network cable from the connector "J8B" on the System Input/Output Daughter board of MMU 1 to the connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output Daughter board of MMU 2.

  1. Connect a network cable from the connector "J8B" on the System Input/Output Daughter board of MMU 2 to the connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output Daughter board of MMU 3.

  1. Connect a network cable from the connector "J8B" on the System Input/Output Daughter board of MMU 3 to the connector "J8A" on the System Input/Output Daughter board of MMU 4.

  1. Install a network cable terminator in the last MMU that is connected to the system. Verify the presence of a network cable terminator in the connector "J8B" of the System Input/Output Daughter board in the System Cabinet.
