Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the fan drive.

2. Remove the electronic unit injectors.

3. Remove the exhaust manifold.

1. Remove bolts (1) and strap (2).

2. Loosen clamps (6) and remove tube assembly (4).

3. Loosen clamps (5) and remove tube assembly (3).

5. Remove bolts (10) and tensioner assembly (9).

7. Disconnect hose assembly (14) and harness assemblies (17) from regulator housing assembly (15).

8. Remove bolts (16) and regulator housing assembly (15).

9. Disconnect hose assembly (19) and hose assembly (21).

10. Disconnect harness assembly (18), harness assembly (20), and harness assembly (22).

11. Remove bolts (25) and straps (27).

12. Remove bolts (26) from roof assembly (23) and roof assembly (24).

13. Remove bolts (28) from roof assembly (23) and roof assembly (24). Remove roof assembly (23) and roof assembly (24).

14. Use suitable lifting device to remove roof assembly (23) and roof assembly (24). The weight of roof assembly (23) and roof assembly (24) is approximately 31 kg (68 lb) each.

15. Attach a suitable lifting device to cylinder head (30). The weight of cylinder head (30) is approximately 204 kg (450 lb).

16. Remove bolts (29) and bolts (31). Remove cylinder head (30).

17. Inspect the cylinder head and the cylinder block for flatness. Refer to Guideline for Reusable Parts and Salvage Operations, SEBF8162, "Procedure to Measure and Salvage Cylinder Head Assemblies and Related Components".

Installation Procedure

1. Install cylinder head (30) in the reverse order of removal.

   1. Install a new head gasket.

      Note: Use Step 1.b through Step 1.i for torquing cylinder head (30).

   2. Tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 170 ± 10 N·m (125 ± 7 lb ft).

   3. Tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) again in a numerical sequence to a torque of 170 ± 10 N·m (125 ± 7 lb ft).

   4. Place a mark on Bolt (1) through Bolt (26). Rotate Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) in a numerical sequence for an additional 120 ± 5 degrees (1/3 turn).

   5. Loosen Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) until the washers are loose under the Bolt heads.

   6. Tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 170 ± 10 N·m (125 ± 7 lb ft).

   7. Tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) again in a numerical sequence to a torque of 170 ± 10 N·m (125 ± 7 lb ft).

   8. Place a mark on Bolt (1) through Bolt (26). Rotate Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) in a numerical sequence for an additional 120 ± 5 degrees (1/3 turn).

   9. Tighten Bolt (27) through Bolt (34) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

   10. Tighten bolt (26) to a torque of 30 ± 7 N·m (22 ± 5 lb ft).

   11. Tighten bolt (1) to a torque of 15 ± 3 N·m (133 ± 27 lb in).
