Start By:

  1. Remove the inlet and exhaust valves.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove seals (1) from valve guides (2).

  2. Use Tooling (A) to remove valve guides (2) from the cylinder head assembly.

(1) Use Seal Installer 455-0128 with Seal 163-2478. Use Seal Installer 375-2773 with Seal 361-3926.

  1. Apply clean engine oil to both the outside and the inside diameter of the valve guide. Position the valve guides into the cylinder head. Tap on the top of the valve guides. This action is done to start the inlet valve guides and exhaust valve guides into the cylinder head assembly.

  2. Use Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) to install the valve guides. Position Tooling (C) across the valve cover base sealing surface. Take a measurement from the top of the valve guide to the bottom of the straight edge. The measurement will be called Distance (C). Distance (X) should be 48.9 ± 0.5 mm (1.93 ± 0.02 inch).

  3. Use Tooling (D) to install seals (1) onto valve guides (2).

End By:

  1. Install the inlet and exhaust valves.
