Procedure To Retain Oil Pump When The Cylinder Block Pump Mounting Pad Is Broken

Usage:

3406B Truck Engines

When objects become caught between the oil pump drive gears, the oil pump mounting pad on the cylinder block can break. In many cases this method of retaining the oil pump housing can be used instead of replacing the cylinder block. This method can be used only if 40% or more of the oil pump mounting pad can be supported on the broken cylinder block mounting pad.

1. Fabricate a support block (A) from 12.7 mm (.50 in) thick mild steel as shown in Illustration 1.

2. Fabricate a tapped block (B) from 12.7 mm (.50 in) thick mild steel as shown in Illustration 2.

3. Drill a 10.5 mm (.41 in) diameter hole through the oil pump mounting pad on the cylinder block as shown in Illustration 3.

4. Install oil pump (4) as shown in Illustration 4. Two 0L1352 Bolts (1), three 5M2894 Washers (2), and one 0L1143 143 Bolt (3) are required to install the pump.
