Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Turn the fuel supply valve to the OFF position.


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  3. Drain the oil from the engine into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".

  4. Remove bolts (2) and bolts (3). Remove elbow (4) from engine oil pump (1).

  5. Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and (6) from fuel filter housing (7).

  6. Disconnect hose assemblies (8), (9), and (10).

  7. Disconnect harness assemblies (11) and (12).

  8. Remove bolts (13) and (14).

  9. Attach Tooling (C) onto the engine. The weight of the engine is approximately 10343 kg (22802 lb). Remove bolts (14) on all sides of engine oil pan (15).

  10. Raise the engine from engine oil pan (15).

  11. Position the engine on Tooling (A).

  12. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device onto engine oil pan (15). The weight of engine oil pan (15) is approximately 567 kg (1250 lb). Apply slight lifting tension on engine oil pan (15). Reach through the holes in platform (16) in order to remove bolts (17). Remove engine oil pan (15) from platform (16).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install engine oil pan (15) in the reverse order of removal.
