Adjust Bosch Solenoid If Replaced Or Reinstalled

Usage:

Bosch Starters

When the solenoid is installed on Bosch starters, there is a recommended distance between the starter housing and the solenoid. See illustration. This gives the correct amount of movement for the shift lever and the pinion. The procedure follows.

Dimension required when the solenoid is installed on the starter.

1. Put a small amount of grease on the reel.

2. Put a few drops of engine oil on the solenoid shaft.

3. Insert the solenoid reel in the starter housing and position the reel on the fork of the shift lever.

4. Install, but do not tighten, the four screws and washers that mount the solenoid to the starter housing.

5. Slightly move the solenoid until the distance between the housing and solenoid clamp (NOT the solenoid) is as shown. The clamp is spot-welded to the solenoid.

6. Tighten screws to 7.2 to 9.7 N·m (64 to 86 lb in).

7. Reconnect cable.
