Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.

To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.

Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.


  1. Disconnect the batteries.

  2. Disconnect the harness assemblies from the electric starting motor.

  3. Attach a suitable lifting device to electric starting motor (2). The weight of electric starting motor (2) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb). Remove bolts (1) that hold the electric starting motor to the flywheel housing. Remove electric starting motor (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install electric starting motor (2) in the reverse order of removal.
