New Basic Engine Components Are Used in C175-16 Engines {1156, 1202, 1205, 1218}

Usage:

C175-16 P6L
Generator Set
C175-16 GEN SET (S/N: WYB1-UP)
Petroleum Engine
C175-16 (S/N: P6L1-UP)

Description Of Change: The following new components have been changed to increase the durability of the engine:

Crankshaft

Crankshaft

  • The diameter of the pin journal was reduced by 8 mm.

  • The straight length of the pin journal was increased by 4 mm but the overall length of the crankshaft was not increased.

  • The oil hole pattern was optimized to reduce cavitation.

  • The dowels on the front and rear of the crankshaft were removed. For better serviceability, the dowels are now pressed into the rear crankshaft gear, the flywheel, and the damper.
Connecting Rod

Section view of the connecting rod

  • The connecting rod bore diameter was decreased by 7 mm (3.5 mm from each side). As a result, the thickness of the mating section for the connecting rod and the cap was increased. The thickness increases the rod stiffness and reduces bending under a load.

  • A honed pattern was designed into the bearing bore instead of the previously shot-peened surface.

  • The angle of the oil passage was changed from entering the bore at 15 degrees past top center to 40 degrees. The relocation of the oil passage moves the hole further from the loading zone.

  • The oil hole for the rod eye bushing was relocated.
Bearing

Bearing

  • The wall thickness was increased by 0.5 mm, which allows higher and more consistent contact pressure between the outer bearing diameter and the rod bore.

  • The oil hole is now slotted and offset 40 degrees past the top center of the rod.

  • Install the 376-6457 Connecting Rod Bearing in any of the new connecting rods for the odd-numbered cylinders.

  • Install the 376-6458 Connecting Rod Bearing in any of the new connecting rods for the even-numbered cylinders.

Note: Do not mix the bearing halves between the different part numbers.

Crankshaft Vibration Damper

  • The viscosity of the fluid in the damper was changed to accommodate the dynamic changes of the crankshaft. The design of the damper was not changed.

Adaptable To: The changes are effective with the following serial numbers:

  • WYB01000

  • P6L01000
The new components are not individually compatible with engines that were built prior to the effective engines. However, an engine can be updated with all the parts.
