New Software Enhances the Cylinder Cutout Feature on Certain 3516C Generator Set Engines {1901, 1920}

Usage:

3516C SBJ
Generator Set:
3516C (S/N: SBK1-UP)
Engine:
3516C (S/N: SBJ1-UP)

Description of Change: The improved software for the ECM enables the configuration of the cold cylinder cutout strategy. The strategy helps to eliminate the black oily fluid which can leak from the exhaust manifold joints at low loads. The cylinder cutout can be enabled or the cylinder cutout can be disabled through Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET). Also, the new software enhances the accuracy of the displayed engine load factor at low loads.

The following items are some features of the new cylinder cutout:

  • The cylinder cutout increases the exhaust temperature, which helps to prevent the accumulation of the black oily residue.

  • Eight injectors are disabled if the cylinder cutout is active. The new engine software will alternate between sets of eight cylinders per minute.

  • During start-up, the new software will wait in order to activate cutout mode until the engine has achieved rated speed.

  • The software will only enable the cylinder cutout in no load conditions (less than 7 percent load).

Adaptable To: The new software is adaptable to the engines listed above that are rated at 1800 rpm and use the ADEM 3 electronic control module.

Effective serial numbers, the new software part numbers, and the former software part numbers are listed in Table 1.
