Setting the Governor Load Stop Output Dimension For More Than 9.00 mm{0782,1257,1265}

Usage:

3114, 3116 Generator and Standby Generator Set Engines

Reference: Special Instruction, SEHS8868, "Using The 1U7326 Governor Calibration Bench".

The above Special Instruction gives the procedure to bench test governors for all 3114 and 3116 Engines. However, the 6V6106 Dial Indicator has insufficient travel if the standard procedure is used for setting any load stop output dimension for the governor that is more than 9.00 mm. This can occur on 3114 and 3116 Generator and Standby Generator Set Engines. (The indicator has adequate travel for the testing procedure.)

Two methods can be used to set the load stop output dimension greater than 9.00 mm. See one of the following two topics.

Using 6V6106 Dial Indicator With A Reduced Calibration Dimension

For this method, put a 1U8815 Contact Point on the stem of the dial indicator. With the governor installed on the calibration bench, fasten the dial indicator to the indicator bracket. See illustration.

Governor and dial indicator installed on the test bench.

Adjust the position of the dial indicator on its bracket so the indicator reads 6.00 mm on the dial face. (Step 13 in the referenced Special Instruction specifies "8.00 mm" for other governors.) Tighten the dial indicator face screw to lock the indicator in position.

The 6.00 mm dimension now becomes the reference point for all other adjustments made on the calibration bench. Since this 6.00 mm reference point is 2.00 mm LESS than the "8.00 mm" specified in theSpecial Instruction, ALL other governor output dimensions specified in the Special Instruction must be REDUCED by 2.00 mm when using this modified method.

Using The Programmable 1U8869 Digital Indicator

1. Preset the indicator before it is installed on the calibration bench by setting the indicator to reverse modes. This allows the indicator to display lower values as the stem is pushed in.

2. Preset indicator to 8.00 mm as described in the indicator Operation Manual. Then, set it on zero ("zero" the indicator).

3. Install a flat end contact stem, AL24 from Federal Products ®. This stem is 22.3 mm (.878") long.

4. Install indicator on the indicator bracket.

5. Set the indicator to minus 3.00 (minus 0.00 + 0.25) mm, and tighten the screw that locks the indicator on its bracket.

6. Push the indicator preset button twice. Indicator should read 8.00 mm.

7. Proceed with the checking or adjusting procedure in the Special Instruction.
