Shock Mounts Give Longer Life To 9F3099 Switch Assembly (Starter Relay){1426,1450}

Usage:

3208, 3408B, 3412, 3508, 3512, 3516 Generator Set Engines

Description of Change: The 9F3099 Switch Assembly, or starter relay, on the above generator set engines has been changed from a solid mounting to a shock mounting. This minimizes vibrations to the switch and extends its life.

On the 3208, 3408B, and 3412 Generator Set Engines, the relay itself is now mounted inside the junction box with three screw-type mounts. See Illustration 1. Spacers have been added between the junction box and the engine mounting bracket to allow room for the new screw mounts that extend through the back of the junction bos. See Illustration 2. A new 9Y7376 Enclosure Assembly (junction box) replaced the former 4W7599 Enclosure Assembly.

On 3508, 3512, and 3516 Generator Set Engines, the complete junction box that contains the relay is mounted to the engine with three biscuit-type mounts. See Illustration 4. A new 9Y8474 Enclosure Assembly (junction box) replaced the former 4W7599 Enclosure Assembly.

Adaptable To: The new parts, all used together, can be installed on earlier generator set engines by installing the listed parts. See applicable topic. The former junction box on the 3208, 3408B, and 3412 Generator Set Engines should not be modified because the studs that mount the box to the mounting bracket are not long enough when the new spacers are used.

1. Remove the junction box and remove the relay and other parts from the box.

2. Install the new relay mounting plate, using the new mounts and hardware, inside the new junction box. See Illustration 1. Fasten the relay to the plate. Reinstall the parts removed from the old box.
