Improvements To Attachment Altronic® Ignition Systems {1550,1555,1558,1567}

Usage:

G379A, G398A, G399 Spark-Ignited Engines

Description of Change: New spark plugs with new covers are used in the Altronic shielded ignition groups available as an attachment on the above spark-ignited engines. The new plugs have two adjustable ground straps and give longer life than the former plugs. The former plugs have only one adjustable ground strap.

New transformers that are compatible with the new plugs are also used. These transformers are shorter and easier to install. The shorter length requires a new, longer harness for cylinder No. 3.

Adaptable To: The new parts are directly adaptable to earlier engines with the following approximate serial numbers that are equipped with the attachment Altronic ignition groups.

G379A Engines: 72B1534-Up
G398A Engines: 73B2157-Up
G399 Engines: 49C1595-Up

A new spark plug, a new transformer, and a new cover are required to replace each former spark plug. It is not necessary to replace the former plugs in complete sets. If No. 3 plug is replaced, the new harness for this plug is also required. Use Special Instruction SEHS8992. Tighten the new plug in the new transformer to 47 ± 3 N·m (35 ± 2 lb ft). Then tighten the plug and transformer combination in the head to 38 ± 3 N·m (28 ± 2 lb ft).

The attachment shielded ignition groups and the affected parts are in the following chart.
