A New Heat Shield Is Available for Some C18 Engines {1067}

Usage:

C18 C6C
Engine:
C18 (S/N: ZKB1-UP)
Generator Set:
C18 (S/N: C6C1-UP; G4C1-UP; DKE1-UP; STD1-UP; PEJ1-UP; NKK1-UP; STM1-UP; EKW1-UP)
Industrial Engine:
C18 (S/N: JDA1-UP; NBB1-UP; WJH1-UP)
Petroleum Engine:
C18 (S/N: WJW1-UP)

The new heat shield is used in order to increase the service life of the seal for the valve cover base.

The 272-6658 Heat Shield is adaptable back to first production on the serial numbers that are listed above. Refer to the "Installation Procedure" for the procedure that is used in order to install the new heat shield.

Refer to Table 1 for the parts that are needed in order to install the 272-6658 Heat Shield.

Installation Procedure

    Turbocharger water line

    (1) Mounting hardware

    (2) Clip

    (3) Bolt

  1. Remove clip (2) and retain mounting hardware (1) .

  1. Remove bolt (3). Retain the bracket from behind bolt (3) .

    (4) Clip

    (5) Spacer

    (6) Bolt

  1. Remove bolt (6). Discard both bolt (6) and spacer (5). Retain clip (4) .

    (7) 272-6658 Heat Shield

    (8) 8T-2502 Bolts

    (9) 8T-4896 Hard Washers

    (10) 091-0081 Spacers

  1. Install heat shield (7) onto the cylinder head with bolts (8), hard washers (9), and spacers (10) .

    Note: The clip for the turbocharger oil line must be secured with bolt (8), washer (9), and spacer (10) at the front of the heat shield.

  1. Reinstall the bracket that was retained from Step 2 with bolt (13), washer (9), and spacer (12) .

  1. Attach clip (11) to the bracket that was installed in the previous step with the mounting hardware that was retained in Step 1.

  1. Secure clip (4) with bolt (8), washer (9), and spacer (10) .
