Balancer Group (Front) - Remove and Install - 3508 Engine

Start By:

  1. Remove the front housing.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove bolts (1), bracket assemblies (2), and shaft (3). Disconnect the lever assemblies on shaft (3) from the fuel control shafts.

  2. Use Tooling (A) to align the Marks on balancer gear (6) and the crankshaft gear.

  3. Remove bolts (5) and thrust plate (4).

  4. Remove balancer gear (6) from the gear shaft.

  5. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press to remove the sleeve bearing from balancer gear (6).

  6. Remove bolts (7) and gear shaft (8) from the front of the cylinder block.

  7. Remove bolts (9) and crankshaft gear (10).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install balancer gear (6) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 140 ± 10 N·m (103 ± 7 lb ft).

    2. The bore in the sleeve bearing in balancer gear (6) must be 75.000 ± 0.053 mm (2.9528 ± 0.0021 inch) after installation. Ensure that the bearing joint is in the heavy part of balancer gear (6).

    3. Ensure that the Marks on balancer gear (6) and the crankshaft gear are in alignment.
