Seal Retainer And Seals Are Required When A New Cylinder Head Assembly Is Installed{1100}

Whenever a 7C0011 Cylinder Head Assembly is used to replace a 7W0011 Cylinder Head Assembly, four 7C8954 Seal Retainers and eight 8C5230 Seals are also required. The retainer and seal fit between the cylinder head and the block. One retainer and two seals are installed on each head stud. Use the procedure that follows to install the 7C8954 Seal Retainers and 8C5230 Seals.

1. Remove any 8T0065 RTV Silicone Adhesive/Sealant around the cylinder head studs that extends above the surface of the cylinder block.

2. Use 8T0065 RTV Silicone Adhesive/Sealant (noncorrosive) to fill any gaps between the cylinder head studs and cylinder block. The sealant should be even with the surface of the block.

3. Install one 8C5230 Seal in each side of the 7C8954 Seal Retainer. Install one retainer on each cylinder head stud. The seal on the bottom of the retainer must contact the block.
