Installation of the 276-7630 Turbocharger Shield Group {1073} Caterpillar

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.

This Special Instruction describes the installation of the 276-7630 Turbocharger Shield Group .

1. On the left side of the engine, install shield (10) onto the turbocharger housing.

2. Install shield (12) over the linkage that is between the wastegate and the actuator.

3. Compress the insulation during assembly.

4. Apply 4C-5598 Anti-Seize Compound (HIGH TEMPERATURE) to the threads of bolts 9. Install four bolts (9) .

   Torque ... 12 ± 3 N·m (106 ± 26 lb in)

   Note: Recommend use of a 5/32 inch allen wrench with a ball end in order to access all four bolts (9) .

5. Turn shield (10) to the right slightly in order to facilitate insertion of shield (11) .

6. Install shield (11) onto the turbocharger housing.

   Make sure that the insulation which seals above the shield for the wastegate actuator are not installed inside the shield.

7. Align all tabs to the tab slots. Snap shield assembly together.

8. Apply 4C-5598 Anti-Seize Compound (HIGH TEMPERATURE) to the threads of screws 9. Install four screws (9) .

   Torque ... 12 ± 3 N·m (106 ± 26 lb in)

   Note: Recommend use of a 5/32 inch allen wrench with a ball end in order to access all four bolts (9) .

9. Remove the existing bolts (13) and hard washers (14) from both sides of the center section of the turbocharger housing.

10. Loosely assemble upper brackets (1) and (3) onto the center section of the turbocharger housing and shield assembly.

11. Install bolts (13) and hard washers (14). Hand tighten the bolts.

12. Install bolts (7) and hard washers (8). Hand tighten the bolts.

13. Loosely assemble lower brackets (4) on the exhaust riser and shield assembly.

14. Install bolts (5) and hard washers (6). Hand tighten the bolts.

15. Align the slotted holes on the bracket with the holes in the holes in shield assembly. Install bolts (7) and hard washers (8). Hand tighten the bolts.

16. Tighten the 5/16" bolts for upper brackets (1) and (3). Tighten the 5/16" bolts for lower brackets (4) .

    Torque ... 25 ± 6 N·m (18 ± 4 lb ft)

    Refer to Illustration 9 and 10

17. Tighten the 3/8" bolts for upper brackets (1) and (3) to the center section of the turbocharger housing. Tighten the 3/8" bolts for lower brackets (4) .

    Torque ... 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 6 lb ft)

    Refer to Illustration 9 and 10

18. Repeat Step 1 to Step 17 for the right side of shield assembly.
