Verify correct assembly of the pistons and the connecting rods. Ensure that the etched numbers on the rod and the rod cap are in the correct positions. The etched number on the rod and the rod cap corresponds to the cylinder in which should be installed. |
Note: Careful handling is required always. Fracture faces for both rod and cap should not be placed on any surface. Rod and cap should be laid flat on their sides where possible. Rod assembly should be kept bolted together to protect fracture surface when rod is out of engine.

Note: Inspect the condition of all piston ring grooves. Use Tooling (C) to verify the diameter of the top ring groove. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS0840 for additional information.

Note: Install top ring and intermediate ring with the side marked "UP" toward top of piston.
Note: After rings have been installed, rotate rings so the end gaps are 120° apart.
