Downloading Programs to Power Generation Equipment with the Execloader Software{7620}

Introduction

This document provides proper procedures to download a program to power generation equipment. This procedure uses the Execloader software for downloading.

Items that are Required to Download the Program

The following items will be required to perform the download.

  • Laptop computer

  • Level 1 Apploader software or Level 2 Concept software

  • Access to the Internet

  • Communication cable between the laptop computer and the PLC (1)

  • PCMCIA adapter (2). This adapter is required for laptop computers without type 3 PCMCIA slots.

  • Modbus Plus card (3). This is a type 3 PCMCIA card. The Modbus Plus part number for this card is 416 NHM 21 234.

Connecting the Hardware

Note: Ensure that the Wincox MBX software is installed on the computer. Also ensure that Virtual MBX software is installed on the computer. The Modbus Plus card (3) should not then be plugged into the computer without this software.

  1. Insert the Modbus Plus card (3) into the PCMCIA slot on the computer. Use the type 3 PCMCIA adapter (2) if your computer does not have a type 3 PCMCIA slot.

  1. Verify that the red "ERR" LED (6) is flashing. Also verify that the green "COM" LED (7) is flashing.

  1. Connect one end of the Modbus Plus communication cable (1) to the laptop computer. Connect the other end of the cable to the communication port (8) for the switchgear.

Downloading the Software

  1. Open the Concept EXECloader program.

  1. When the EXECloader screen appears, click "Next".

  1. From the "Communication Protocol" screen, verify that the Modbus Plus protocol is selected. Click "Next".

  1. From the "Modbus Plus Target" screen, click the "Re-Scan" button. Select the target node for the download. Click "Next" after the node has been selected.

  1. When the "Operation" screen appears, click "Browse".

  1. Use table 1 to select the correct .bin file for the application. The correct file is determined by the type of Momentum processor. Navigate through the "Dat" directory in order to locate the correct .bin file. Double click on the correct file in order to select that file for downloading to the PLC. Click "Next".

  1. The "File and Device Info" screen should now be displayed. Verify that information on the screen is correct. Also, verify that there are no red check marks on the right hand side. If the information is correct, click "Next".

  1. When the "Summary" screen appears, click the "Transfer" button. An EXECload warning message will appear before the transfer occurs. Click the "Yes" button in order to proceed.

  1. A "Progress" screen will appear during the transfer of the file. The EXECloader will now flash the processor on the PLC. When the transfer of the file is complete the "Close" button will be highlighted. Click the "Close" button in order to exit the EXECloader software.

  1. Open the Apploader program or the Concept program.

  1. Open the .prz program file for the PLC.

  1. Left click the mouse on the "Unpack" button.

  1. If a "DBGEN Warning" window appears, select "Yes".

  1. The project should now be open. Under the "Online" drop-down menu, select "connect".

  1. Select "change configuration" from the "Access Level "menu in order to download the program to the correct PLC.

  1. When the PLC is connected you will see windows that are similar to the windows in Illustration 20. Select "Ok" for each window.

  1. When the PLC is connected, select "Download"under the "Online" menu.

  1. From the "Download Controller" menu, click the "ALL" button, and then click the "Download" button.

  1. The window in Illustration 23 will appear after downloading is complete. Select the "Yes" button.

  1. A window will open displaying all of warnings from the download. These warnings are normal. Close the window. The downloading of the project is completed.
