The Intake Valve Actuator has Current Low Faults on the C13 Engine{1901, 1902, 7620} Caterpillar

The Intake Valve Actuator has Current Low Faults on the C13 Engine{1901, 1902, 7620}

Usage:

C11 KCA
Engine:
C11 (S/N: KCA1-UP)
C13 (S/N: KCB1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Certain C13 engines are logging a Intake Valve Actuator code that is a current low fault. Some of the C13 engines have logged a low current fault code on all cylinders when the engine is flashed on newer software. Reinstalling the original software on the engine was the solution. The Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a low current condition during five attempts to energize the Intake Valve Actuator. The following codes are logged when there is a fault code.

  • 285-5

  • 286-5

  • 287-5

  • 288-5

  • 289-5

  • 290-5

Solution

For the engines that have exhibited this condition, flash the ECM with the latest version of software. Contact your dealer Technical Communicator (TC) if this solution does not correct the problem.
