Torque Converter - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the main drive shaft.

  1. Drive the machine onto suitable cribbing. The suitable cribbing needs to raise the rear of the machine a minimum height of 305 mm (12 inches) from the ground.

  2. Drain the hydraulic oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  3. Drain the torque converter.

  4. Remove the bolt and clip (1).

  5. Disconnect tube assembly (2).

  6. Disconnect hose assembly (3).

  7. Remove clips (4) and (5).

  8. Remove tube assemblies (2) and (6).

  9. Disconnect hose assembly (7).

  10. Remove screen (8).

  11. Disconnect hose assembly (9), hose assembly (10), and hose assembly (11).

  12. Remove bolts (12) and elbow (13).

    The cab is removed for photographic purposes only.

  13. Remove clips (14) and (15). Position the hose assemblies out of the way.

  14. Loosen clamps (16) and (18).

  15. Remove hose (17).

  16. Remove bolt (19).

  17. Loosen clamps (20) and (21).

  18. Disconnect hose (22).

  19. Disconnect hose assembly (23), hose assembly (24), and hose assembly (25).

  20. Remove the bolt and clip (26).

  21. Disconnect harness assembly (27).

  22. Cut cable straps (28).

  23. Remove the bolt and clip (29).

  24. Disconnect harness assembly (30) and harness assembly (31).

  25. Position harness assembly (27), harness assembly (30), and harness assembly (31) out of the way.

  26. Remove bolt (33) and position bracket (32) out of the way.

  27. Attach Tooling (B) and Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (35). The weight of torque converter (35) is approximately 272 kg (600 lb).

  28. Remove bolts (34).

  29. Position Tooling (C) under the machine.

  30. Lower torque converter (35) onto Tooling (C).

  31. Remove Tooling (C) and torque converter (35) from the machine.

  32. Remove O-ring seal (36) from torque converter (35).

  33. Remove retaining ring (37) and sun gear (38).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install torque converter (35) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Lubricate the bore for elbow (13) lightly with power train oil before installation.
