Improved Retention Method For The Headliner Of Certain PL61 Pipelayers {7301}

Description Of Change: The current magnetic retention system for the headliner in certain PL61 Pipelayers is not sufficient to retain the headliner during transport. This article contains the instructions to improve the retention system.

  1. Remove the existing headliner (if required).

    (A) 35 ± 3 mm (1.38 ± 0.1 inch)
    (B) 50 ± 3 mm (1.97 ± 0.1 inch)
    (C) 100 ± 3 mm (3.94 ± 0.1 inch)
    (D) 200 ± 3 mm (7.88 ± 0.1 inch)
    (E) 290 ± 3 mm (11.42 ± 0.1 inch)
    (F) 350 ± 3 mm (13.78 ± 0.1 inch)
    (G) 500 ± 3 mm (19.69 ± 0.1 inch)

  2. Prepare the area where the new weld studs will be located. Remove the paint by using a grinder or a similar tool.

  3. Tack weld threaded rod (1) in at least two places.

  4. Make sure to maintain a 25 mm (1 inch) distance from all wiring harnesses. Also make sure that the studs are perpendicular with the surface.

  5. Clean and paint the base of the studs with primer or paint to inhibit rust.

  6. Carefully place the headliner onto the ceiling of the canopy.

  7. Press the headliner firmly against the studs so that the stud locations are evident on the back.

  8. Remove the headliner and drill holes through the headliner with the selected drill bit.

  9. Reinstall the headliner and secure in place using 10 plastic washers (2) and 10 button screws (3). Tighten button screws (3) to a torque of 1.3 ± 0.3 N·m (11.5 ± 2.7 lb in).

    Note: More washers (2) may be used to ensure that the headliner is properly secured.
