Start By:

  1. Remove the temperature control valve.


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the oil from the engine oil filter housing into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.

  2. Remove bolts (1), bolts (4), nuts (2), elbow (3), and the O-ring seals.

  3. Remove bolts (5), stud (6), stud (7), and use two people to remove housing (8) and tubes (9). The approximate weight of housing (8) 25 kg (55 lb).

  4. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to engine oil filter housing (10). The approximate weight of engine oil filter housing (10) 186 kg (410 lb).

  5. Remove bolts (11), bolts (13), and disconnect tubes (13).

  6. Remove bolts (15) and engine oil filter housing (10).
