曲轴改变活塞的往复运动，使其成为可用的旋转扭矩。
曲轴驱动位于发动机前端和后端的一组齿轮。 前齿轮组驱动发动机机油泵、水套水泵和附件驱动装置。 后齿轮总成驱动凸轮轴。
加压的发动机机油通过缸体壁板中的钻道供应到曲轴主轴承。 然后发动机机油流经曲轴中的钻道，以润滑连杆轴承。
12 缸发动机有 7 个主轴承。 16 缸发动机有 9 个主轴承。 20 缸发动机有 11 个主轴承。 在中央主轴承的侧面上的两个止推板控制曲轴的轴向间隙。
