Rerate Plates And 4W5140 Engine Information Plate Available For Use When Rerating 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines{0782,1250}

Usage:

3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines ( 8TC1-Up)

Reference: "Engine Identification Plate Information For 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines", in this issue.

When To Use One Of The New Rerate Plates

Initially, PEEC (Programmable Electronic Engine Control) will be available in two horsepower families for 3406B Truck Engines with ATAAC (Air-To-Air After-cooling). The two horsepower families are 285 to 310 hp, and 330 to 350 hp.

When either the hp or rpm rating are changed, and the horsepower rating is STILL in the SAME horsepower family, use the applicable new rerate information plate. Although not technically required by EPA or CARB (California Air Research Board) in the United States, this will easily identify the rerated engine and help avoid confusion in the field. See charts.

The rerate plates only have spaces for the new power rating, and full load and high idle rpm. See illustration. These adhesive-backed plates cover up part of the bottom two lines on the original identification plate. The rerate plates come already stamped.

Typical example of a rerate plate for use when the new rating is still within the same power family.

When To Use The 4W5140 Engine Information Plate

If the engine is rerated to a different horsepower family, for example from 330 to 310 hp, a different personality module and other engine parts are needed. Whenever the horsepower family is changed, a new 4W5140 Information Plate is required by the EPA and CARB. This plate does not come prestamped. All new rating information must be stamped on the plate.

Next, break off and remove the narrow strip across the bottom of the 4W5140 Plate. The plate is scored across the bottom to help break off this strip.

After you stamp all the new ratings on this plate, flatten the plate. Clean the existing identification plate on the engine and use Loctite® to stick the 4W5140 Plate over the existing plate. The 4W5140 Plate is sized to cover ALL of the existing plate EXCEPT for the information that did not change on the top of the existing plate, such as model and serial number.
